OUR STORY I

Our Story!
Garing Taylor & Associates (GTA) is an experienced and dedicated team of Civil Engineers and Land Surveyors. Our clientele includes private developers, independent land owners, cities, public agencies, architects and other professional consultants. Established in 1962, GTA has a proud history of work throughout the Central Coast and we are poised to continue a reputation of quality well into the future.

Our team is unique in today’s development and public works landscapes. We have several senior professionals that are well-established and known for their work throughout the Central Coast. Meanwhile, we have a growing team of up-and-coming, exuberant, talented professionals – continually learning from our senior staff, and creatively applying the ways, lessons and principles of the past into today’s engineering and development environment.

GTA offers a complete project solution for our clients, from the initial back-of-the-napkin planning all the way through entitlement, design development, construction documents and construction management. Our relationships with the local agencies and our extensive knowledge of the applicable codes help our staff to complete projects on time, within budget.

Mission

Garing, Taylor & Associates, INC.

GTA's mission is to remain a trusted partner, by both private and public interests, in the development of the communities in which we operate and are deeply involved. While we seek and have a great appetite for meaningful, landmark projects which have great potential to have a positive impact in the community. there will seldom be a project too small for our interests. We at GTA shall always remain humble and grateful, while remembering that the communities we serve have evolved and grown by stitching thousands of small projects together over time - and that our growth and evolution has been, and will be, much the same.

We are compelled to be active, caring, generous leaders in our communities by our integrity and the weight of the trust these same communities have in us as individuals, and as a team. This team will continue to succeed, quite simply, because of our consultant-first attitude, which means we genuinely value helping clients and providing the very best customer care more so than any drawing or calculation we may produce in the course of our duties.

Finally, the GTA way is to treat each other with compassion, to care for and help one-another, and to elevate each other towards the goals and milestones we identify in our lives and careers. While our roots are unmistakably simple and conservative in nature, we will always nurture and reward innovation and be unrelenting in our quest to inject our own brand of remarkable into all that we do.

Principles:

When it comes to Guiding Principles, I’m literally staring at a list of over 50 that my team and I have generated during brainstorming sessions over the last several years. I’ve shared 7 of my favorites below:

Be Generous:
  • With each other.
  • With employees.
  • With our time.
  • With the causes in which our employees express strong belief.
  • Every employee that desires as much shall be given the opportunity to learn the business-side of operating a land surveying and civil engineering company.
  • We will fail, but we will learn more from our mistakes than our competition.
  • No gossip. No drama. No egos.
  • Continually seek ways to increase efficiency and productivity.
  • Personal health and family are more important than any work we are doing.
  • Encourage progress and innovation.

Core Beliefs and Ideology:

As previously mentioned, the Core Beliefs and Ideology were initially buried within the Guiding Principles (as they so often are). We went through each of the Guiding Principles and simply asked ourselves the following questions: Are these principles that the founders may have identified (had they chosen to do so)? And will this principle ever change, regardless of who is in charge?

Using that information, we identified 5 principles which would stand the test of time and become our Core Beliefs and Ideology (again, pending our Owner’s Meeting Vote this coming week):

  • Help everyone we work for and with. We consult. We do not simply draw plans.
  • Work with and for people, companies and agencies with visions that align with our own.
  • Be Trustworthy.
  • Be Involved.
  • Be Remarkable.
